How to buy unlisted shares
Six steps, typically two to five working days once your account is ready. Nothing here is automated and nothing settles until both sides have confirmed.
- Step 11–3 working days
Open a demat account, if you do not have one
Unlisted shares are transferred electronically, exactly like listed ones. Without a demat account there is nowhere for the shares to be credited, so this has to be in place before a transaction can settle.
- Either depository works — CDSL or NSDL
- You will need the DP ID and Client ID, which appear on your Client Master List
- A basic services account is fine; no trading account is required
- Step 21–3 working days
Complete KYC with us
We verify your identity, your bank account and your demat account before any settlement. You can raise an enquiry before KYC is done, but nothing settles until it is complete.
- PAN card
- Address proof — Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or a recent utility bill
- Bank proof — a cancelled cheque or a recent statement in your own name
- Client Master List from your depository participant
- Step 3
Research the company properly
Read the financials, the shareholding, the risk tags and the IPO status on the company page. Unlisted companies disclose less than listed ones, so what is on the page is often most of what is publicly known.
- Check whether the latest year is audited or provisional
- Check when the indicative price was last updated and how many quotes stand behind it
- Read the risk tab — illiquidity applies to every name here
- Step 4Immediate
Raise a buy enquiry
Tell us the company, the quantity and how to reach you. You get an enquiry ID straight away and the status is set to New. There is no obligation at this point and no money moves.
- Step 51–3 working days
We confirm availability and a firm price
Our desk sources the stock and comes back with a price we can actually transact at, which may differ from the indicative price on the site. You decide whether to proceed.
- Availability is confirmed before price
- A confirmed price is typically held for 24 hours
- Thinly quoted names take longer and the spread is wider
- Step 61–2 working days
Pay and receive the shares
You transfer funds from your registered bank account. The seller submits a delivery instruction slip and the shares are credited to your demat account. Your account shows the transaction and the closing status.
